There are 3 primary aspects t consider when purchasing an engagement ring. Firstly, the precious metal used for the ring, second the style of the ring (this is referring to visual features such as extra small diamonds down the side of the band), and last and most importantly, the diamond(s).
When purchasing an engagement ring, one of the biggest considerations is the total carat weight of the diamonds in the ring. The average engagement ring is 1.00ct but this is by no means the minimum required size. When you are ready to purchase your engagement ring is best to come up with your budget first, and talking with an expert will help you achieve the most out of your budget.
The most important characteristics of a diamond to understand are the 4 C's which are Diamond Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat Weight. All of these characteristics can alter the value of a diamond dramatically. Find out more about the diamond 4 C's.
The round brilliant-cut diamond is the most popular diamond shape. Other diamond shapes such as pear, oval, radiant, emerald, and cushion are all favourites.
An engagement ring does not have to be a diamond. A coloured gemstone is a great choice, however, at Orsini we recommend sticking with precious gemstones such as sapphire (available in most colour hues, find out more about sapphires) and ruby. Some gemstones are too fragile to stand the test of time and are not suitable to be the primary feature of a ring that is worn every day. Here is some information on why Orisni recommend only sapphires and rubies if you are opting for a colour gemstone for your engagement ring.
We will always strive to get as close as possible when it comes to assuming the finger size of your partner, however, it does happen often that once the ring is on it is clear the ring size needs to be adjusted. At Orsini, we offer a complimentary ring resize, which we will match to your partner's finger so the size is perfect.
